The National Monuments Service's description
On a SW-facing slope in gently undulating dry terrain, in pasture. The landowner describes a small mound in the field (H c. 0.8m; Wth c. 5m) which was located immediately S of an E-W field boundary. The field boundary and mound were levelled c. 25 years ago. When levelled the mound material was identified as consisting of fire-cracked stones in a black soil and below the mound the stones were wet indicating a high water table. There is a spring and small stream c. 40m to the W, at the base of the slope. The digger driver who levelled the mound had come across similar mounds which he called 'The druid's fireplace'.
