The National Monuments Service's description
According to the Civil Survey (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 138) James Tobyn was proprietor of a 'mill seate upon a little brooke' in 1640 in the townland of Mullinoly. There is a mill indicated on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map as a 'Flour & Corn Mill' with a 'mill pond' depicted and named to the NE. The mill race is unnamed, but is depicted to the N. The mill is named 'Compsey Mill (corn)' on the 2nd (1906) ed. map. The modern Co-op is located to ESE of the mill. According to local information, the main mill buildings were re-roofed in 1918 and the mill went out of use in 1975. This mill complex appears to be 18th/19th century in date. There are no visible remains of the 17th-century water mill mentioned in the Civil Survey. This mill remains unlocated within Mullinoly townland.
