The National Monuments Service's description
According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 'Rath Kieny', which was under the proprietorship of ‘Richard Wall of Rath Kieny Irish Papist’ in 1640, ‘The sayd lands hath on it a small Castle thatcht with straw' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 179). There is a wall monument (TS070-040068-) to Richard Wale or Wall of Rathkenny in the Augustinian abbey (TS070-040004-) in Fethard which dates to 1635. This Richard probably lived in the castle at Rathkenny and was succeeded by another Richard, probably his son, who owned the property in 1640. This castle is unlocated within the townlands of Rathkenny.
