The National Monuments Service's description

On flat ground on a valley floor with hills rising to the NE-E-S. The field enclosing the graveyard to the N-E-S is under tillage and there is a farmyard to the W. St. Johnstown tower house (TS062-060001-) is located 110m to the SW. A roughly rectangular graveyard (dims. 32m N-S; 43m E-W) with the church (TS062-055----) in the NW quadrant. The graveyard is enclosed by a stone wall (H 1.5m) and entered through a gate in the N wall with a stile on either side. Before this wall was erected the graveyard appears to have been delineated by a scarp (H 0.95m) which runs 3m inside and roughly parallel with the N and W boundary wall. It is not evident along the E and S sides. Headstones are concentrated on the S side of the graveyard and along the E end. According to the OS letters the graveyard ‘much in use’ was ‘surrounded by a low stone wall partly destroyed on southwest and west sides, where the loose stones are built up in their original situation but without cement’ (O’Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 162 (461)).
