The National Monuments Service's description

Inserted into the rear wall of a pointed trefoil-headed recess in the N wall of the nave of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel. A heraldic plaque (dims. 0.68m x 0.63m) bearing the arms of the Sall family. The shield, a label over the attires of a stag, flanked by stag supporters. It is surmounted by a latin inscription in raised script: LAUS DEO 1574 / SCUTUM SALL which translates as, 'Praise to God 1574 The shield of Sall' (Manning 2000, 27). Beneath the shield is a rare example of a merchant's mark flanked by the letters E and K, possibly the first initials of one of the Salls and his wife (ibid.).
