The National Monuments Service's description
Formerly in the S wall of the chancel of Athassel Abbey (TS068-013----), this tomb (see TS068-013011-) was discovered in 1946 and has subsequently been moved to the college of the Vicars Choral (TS061-025005-) on the Rock of Cashel. The front panel is decorated with four niches and the partial remains of a fifth. The niches are pointed, cusped arches supported on triple columns with capitals and bases and each contains a knight carrying a shield. According to Hunt (1974, vol. 1, 220) the 'swords are of late thirteenth-century form with large circular pommels and short straight crosses. The architectural style and treatment of the figures of the knights point to a date in the second half of the thirteenth century, if not early fourteenth century. The stone is Dundry stone, and this must be an imported monuement from the West of England'.
