According to the Civil Survey (1654-5) there was 'a big thatch house' in 'Ballinree' in 1640 under the proprietorship of 'Walter Butler of Ballinree Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 225). The house referred to is unlocated within Ballinree townland.
