On the S-sloping edge of an E-W ridge overlooking the River Suir and a small lake c. 150m to the S, in an area of undulating ground with outcrop to the N of the tower house. According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) the Countess of Ormond was the proprietor in 1640 and 'On the sd. lands stands a castle Demolished with a Bawne on one side thereof together with a thatcht house a few cabblins all Inhabitted (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 9). Incorporated into the NE angle of Ballynahinch bawn (TS060-059002-) there is a building (int. dims. 10.9m N-S; c. 5-5.5m E-W) constructed of limestone rubble, roughly coursed. According to a neighbouring landowner this building was originally as high as the bawn wall, implying it was two storeys high, but was knocked in the 1960s. Only the S gable (T 0.7m; max. H 1.67m) and portion of the S end of the W wall survive, though largely as collapsed rubble. There is a concrete floor immediately S of the building and a concrete wall runs parallel to the bawn wall and the inner face of the bawn wall is also concreted over up to a height of 0.9m.
