The National Monuments Service's description

Mohober castle described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'an old castle the walls onely standing' with James Earl of Ormond listed as proprietor in 1640 (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 124). The castle was provisionally located to Mohober House which is situated in grassland in upland region with good views in all directions. This is a 19th-century house with no visible remains of any castle around the existing house and the owners have no recollection or any tradition of a castle in the vicinity of the current house. Castle remains unlocated within the townland.
