The National Monuments Service's description
In gently undulating, though relatively flat, terrain, under grass. In the field surrounding Kilcooly Abbey (TS043-034001-) there are a number of earthworks defined by low banks or scarps. These do not conform to any readily recognisable pattern and could relate either to the occupation of the abbey by the monks or to the post Dissolution period when the abbey was re-used as a residence. An estate map of 1749 shows a large oval garden (TS043-034005-) immediately E of the abbey and a large square garden immediately N of the abbey (Neely 1983, 2005 Reprint, 50). On the 1st (1840) ed. 6-inch OS map there are gardens depicted running roughly E-W between the abbey and the boundary wall to the W.
