The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on land sloping to the E, at the edge of a ridge in pasture. Tower house and bawn (TN047-068002) immediately to NW. A rectangular enclosure (dims. c. 24m N-S; 36m E-W) defined by a denuded internal bank which has been mostly reduced to a scarp (H 0.63m), a fosse (Wth 4.1m; D 0.48m) and outer bank (Wth 1.9m; ext. H 0.39-1.08m) with external fosse (Wth 3.4m; D 0.28m). The fosse is dry with no obvious water source. No discernible entrance but the N and W sides are very denuded. West of the moated site there is a platform (32m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by the base of a stone wall, much denuded and grass covered - it runs onto the stone wall which extends N-S from the S bawn wall.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
