The National Monuments Service's description

Situated just off the crest of a very gentle NE-facing slope in undulating terrain. A large, roughly D-shaped area (dims. 89m N-S; 95m E-W) defined by a substantial bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.3m) and an external fosse (Wth 3.8m; D 0.8m) with an internal, roughly square-shaped platform (dims. 22.2m NW-SE; 20.3m E-W) defined by a scarp (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.8m) which has been levelled. The sides appear to be straight with rounded corners sloping gently to the exterior. The interior of this small platform is slightly raised in the centre and may represent the foundations of a medieval building. The outer enclosure has been completely levelled at NE to provide room for a concrete floor and slatted shed for farmyard expansion. There is a modern gap in the SE sector. Immediately NW of the central platform and within the outer enclosure there are a number of low linear mounds which may represent former walls/boundaries, however these form no clear pattern. A sunken way/trackway is located immediately E of the site, extending E-W, and appears to be associated.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
