The National Monuments Service's description
Located in S aisle just W of crossing tower of chancel arch inside Holycross abbey, recumbent rectangular limestone slab dating from 1643. Well preserved but worn tapered slab ( L 2m; Top Wth 0.89m ; Base Wth 0.78m) lying on the surface of the S aisle of the abbey. The surface is decorated with a seven-armed cross, with fleur-de-lis terminals. The cross-shaft rises from a pyramidal shaped base. An inscription runs around all four edges of the slab. This inscription is worn and reads HIC JACET MAURITIUS OKEARNY ETE ELENA PURCELLEIUS UXOR QUI ME FIERIFECE RUNTILLE OBIT 11 ADNI 1643 ILLAU 222 DECEMBER 1643 - Here lies the body of Maurice O'Kearny and his wife Ellen Purcell who had this made in 1643, he died 22 December 1643.
