The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on flat ground on the W bank of the River Suir with the chancel of holy cross abbey (TN047-030001) 10m to the W. This well has been covered over in recent years as it is situated in a prayer garden which was created to commemorate the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1979.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
