The National Monuments Service's description
Located just below the crest of a hill on top of a ridge, sloping slightly to the SW with a natural fall to the W. A roughly circular area (diam. 31.5m N-S; 29m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2m; int. H 3m; ext. H 1m) and an outer fosse (Wth 2.7m; D 0.54m) only visible at S. A gap in the bank in the SE quadrant (Wth 2.4m) may be the original entrance. The interior slopes to the NW and SE, sloping with the ridge. A NE-SW field boundary skirting the site at E has been removed.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
