The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a natural hillock with good views of the surrounding poorly drained bogland. A mound was also known at this location (TN042-040002). Described by Seymour (1912, 127) as a closed-up cave. Also described by Rynne (1965a, 144) as a cave which he inspected in 1960. A large quarry now occupies this area.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
