The National Monuments Service's description

Waste ground adjacent to Thurles golf course. Site marked as T-plan building called 'Turtulla Flour Mill' on 1st (1848) ed. OS 6-inch map but not indicated on 2nd (1952-53) ed. Mill race survives but there is no trace of the mill building. No memory of mill according to local information though there is a memory of some ruins including a length of wall which as children they called 'the Black Chapel'. On John Rocque's map of Thurles 1755 an 'Old Mill' is marked at this location (NLI Estate Maps: 16.I.17(9)) which suggests that the mill may have been seventeenth-century in date.
