The National Monuments Service's description

Situated in low, marshy terrain on the E bank of the Poulaneigh River. On 1st (1843) ed. OS 6-inch map the mill is indicated as being a flour mill. The Civil Survey (1654-6) refers to 'a Mill in repaire' in Archerstown (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 54). There is no visible trace of a mill building at this site. According to a local source the mill was levelled c. 15 years ago (c. 1981). However the millrace, which ran through the site, still survives. A lot of rubble has been dumped in the area where the mill was located, presumably to create a platform for a new building. This is possibly the location of the mill referred to in the seventeenth century.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
