The National Monuments Service's description
Modern bridge traverses Mulkear river replacing 19th century stone brdige the arches of which were supported on large columns of which only one survives.
Monitoring (Licence No. 02E0816) was undertaken of all groundworks on a site to the east of the town of Newport. A possible bridge, SMR TN037-001, and an enclosure, SMR TN037-004, were close to the development. The site showed evidence of agricultural practices such as ploughing and reclamation, but nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
