The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a low rock outcrop in a poorly drained area in the centre of an earthwork (TN035-013001) with a nearby holy well (TN035-012) to the N. The wall-footings of a probable penal church (int. dims. 4.2m N-S; 9.5m E-W; wall T 0.9m) survive in the centre of an earthwork of unknown antiquity. Not indicated on the 1st. ed. OS 6-inch map but indicated on the current edition. The church was probably built between 1840 and 1903 as supported by the cartographic evidence.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
