The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on high ground in an upland area. The precise location of this castle within the townland of Ballinlonty has not been identified. No visible remains of the castle in the vicinity of Ballinlonty House. In 1840 the OS Letters as recorded the following 'It is said there was an old castle in Ballinlonty' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 192). The ruins of nineteenth-century Ballinlonty House are depicted on latest ed. OS 6-inch map. There is no evidence of a medieval castle or any fabric from a medieval building in the vicinity of Ballinlonty House.
