The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated stone house within the townland of Killawardy. According to the 1654-56 Civil Survey there was located 'upon the lands of Killavardy a stone house in repayre & a grind mill (TN029-091-----) likewise in repayre' (Simington 1931, Vol. 1, 6). This 'stone house' may be the same building as the unlocated castle (TN029-090001-) mentioned in the 1654-56 Civil Survey description of the Barony of Ikerrin.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
