The National Monuments Service's description

Castle depicted on Down Survey map of Templederry parish (NLI, MS 721) located in the townland of Cloghinch. On this map a castle is shown standing on the S bank of a stream. According to local tradition this castle was situated on the summit of the esker overlooking stream to S. The precise location of this castle has not been identified.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
