The National Monuments Service's description
Located on level ground in gently undulating terrain. The OS Name Books (c. 1840) recorded the following: 'Site of Ballycrenode House: Those people are very old who ever recollect of seeing any part of this house standing and the spot where it stood can only be discovered by the pavement of the yard. It belonged to the O'Carroll family and its last inhabitant is said to have been Major O'Carroll. The place is now the property of Lord Norbury'. This was possible an early house as it was already long gone by 1840. The present Ballycrenode House is located NW of this earlier house and is a three-bay box Georgian house.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
