The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a NE-facing hillslope with a fast flowing stream c. 20m SE at the base of a steep-sided river gorge. A circular, raised area (diam. 23m N-S; 36.3m E-W) defined by a bank reduced to a scarp (H 0.84m) and an outer fosse (Wth 3m; D 0.2m) with no entrance feature visible. The bank is very waterlogged at W and has been quarried into. On the 1904 ed. OS 6-inch map an E-W field boundary is depicted along the N sector; this has since been removed. In the OS Name Books (c. 1840) there is reference to the site being used as a burial ground (TN027-118002), however there is no visible evidence of this usage.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
