The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in wet marshy ground on a level break, on the lower slope of a ridge, with a fast-flowing river, roughly c. 20m to W. There are two other moated sites in the vicinity, one (TN027-115) immediately to the SE and a second (TN027-113) further away to the NNE. A square-shaped area (dims. 31.5m N-S; 31.5m E-W) defined by a much-denuded bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.12m; ext. H 0.6m) reduced to a scarp along E, S and W sides with external fosse (Wth 3.2m; D 0.12m) waterlogged on the E side. The bank is heavily overgrown with gorse bushes on the S and W sides. The undulating interior is also quite wet and the bank is heavily overgrown with gorse.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
