The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in a large rolling field with hills to the E and S and another rising to the SW; the views are hindered by the hills and rising ground. The site is associated with an early church (TN027-100004)). There was a small standing stone (TN027-0100003) near the centre of the site but excavation around it threw no light on its dating or purpose (Manning 1984b, 262). The standing stone may have been used as a grave marker during a later period of use, possibly associated with the burial of unbaptised children (ibid.).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
