The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated within townland described in Lewis's Topographical dictionary of Ireland as 'The site of the ruins of an old church, with a burial ground attached, which is the place of sepulture of the Prittie family. An abbey of which there are no vestiges, is said to have been founded here in 540' (Lewis 1837, 187).

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
