The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a natural rise of ground with good views in all directions. Described by O'Donovan (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 121) as the 'fragmentary remains of the wall (H 3.5m; L 12m) of an old castle'. Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) in the townland 'Of Bawne in this Parish' …'Upon the sd lands standeth the Walls of an old Castle & noe other buildings', which in 1640 was in the proprietorship of 'The Countesse of Ormond English Protestant' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 251). Same site as TN020-092001-/02-. No visible remains at ground level.
