The National Monuments Service's description

Situated in pasture on the S end of the summit of a natural, flat-topped N-S ridge. A medieval church (TN023-030002) is located 8.2m W of the site with a fortified house and bawn (TN023-030001) c. 50m to the E. A ringfort (TN023-031), levelled some years ago, would have been visible to the SSE. Present remains consist of a large rectangular enclosure (dims. 71.3m NW-SE; 24.3m NE-SW) defined by a wide, broad, round-topped earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.77-1.1m; ext. H 0.33-1m) with no evidence of an enclosing fosse. The E side of the site utilises the natural slope of the ridge which falls away to E. The bank on the N side is most prominent as are the NE and NW angles and the interior is very flat. At the NE angle a bank runs up to the corner or this could be slippage from the bank. No entrance feature visible. This enclosure seems to be part of the settlement associated with the nearby church and fortified house.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
