The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on an E-facing slope, on outcrop, with a river at the base of the slope to the E. In the Patent Roll of James I in 1618 there is a reference to 'the castle, town and lands of Ballintote' which was part of the estate of Morogh Mc Rory Roe O'Kennedy (Cal. pat. Rolls, Ire., Jas I, 56). There are no earthworks visible at ground level in the vicinity of the tower house (21:55).
