The National Monuments Service's description

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 'Tullaghmore' there was 'one water mill', which in 1640 were are the land of 'Donogh O Hogan of Bellarussine Gent. Daniell O Hogan of Tullaghmore Gent Rory O Hogan of the same gent Therlagh O Bryen of Belline Gent. Irish Papists' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 144). This watermill is unlocated within the townlands of Gorteennakilla and Tullamore. The mill may have been located near the bridge/ford (TN020-034) at Hogan's Pass which is called 'The ffoord called O Hogans mill' in the Civil Survey (ibid. 143).

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
