The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on poorly drained flat land with the nearby Newtown River to the E. A raised circular area (diam. 46m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.5-2m) reduced to a scarp in most places and a wide fosse (Wth 4.5m; D 0.5m) with a possible outer bank (Wth 1.5m; ext. H 0.4m) visible at W only. Possible causewayed entrance at E. Evidence of internal stone revetment of the inner bank is best visible at S. A field fence intersects the fosse at SE and NE.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
