The National Monuments Service's description
No surface remains visible or any indication of a church site inside large circular-shaped enclosure (TN019-027001-) known locally as 'Kyle'. Possible church site identified by Wheeler without any supporting evidence (OPW Field Report 1957). The monument was described in 1957 as 'a very large ringfort, almost levelled, with a possible early church site (TN019-027002-) or burial-ground (TN019-027003-) inside it' (OPW Field Report 19/09/1957). The townland name Kilparteen is derived from Cill Phairtín which could be Parteen's Church, however the Irish word Feirtín can be used to a describe a little grave which may be a reference to the presence of a possible children's burial ground (TN019-027003-) (www.logainm.ie).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
