The National Monuments Service's description

Depicted as an island in a small lake in bog on the 1st ed. (1843) OS 6-inch map but not depicted on the 2nd ed. (1904). The bog is in private ownership and has been progressively cut for turf which has revealed no horizons of natural wood except on mineral soil. The peat is cut down to mineral soil for most of its length. Drains are cut through the bog surface at irregular intervals. Natural wood is growing on the surface showing that the bog has dried out. It was not possible to locate this site.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
