The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a fairly circular, flat-topped hillock in undulating, hillocky terrain. Indicated as a tree plantation on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map and as a mound on the 1901-5 ed. The site is located on Corville estate with a folly ' Black Castle' c. 100m to the NNE. It is a likely location for a tree-ring/small tree plantation. No visible trace at ground level.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
