The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a S-facing slope in rolling pastureland. A large, roughly circular enclosure depicted on the 1st and current eds. of the OS 6-inch maps. Although levelled, a slight curving rise indicates the former bank of a circular area at N (overall diam. c. 50m). A curving hedgerow in the SW quadrant appears to respect the site or conversely could have incorporated part of an outer bank. A trackway now runs between the site and this hedgerow. The interior slopes to the S. The site was identified as a ringfort when it was still upstanding in the late 1950s (OPW Correspondence, 9.9.1958) and the outline of the site is visible on an aerial photograph taken in 1973 (GSIAP, R 92/1).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
