The National Monuments Service's description

A watermill described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) is referred to as being in 'Kilnalahgh' which has been identified with the present townland of Sopwell. It is described as 'a Water Corne Myll' and in 1640 was in the ownership of 'Constance McEgan of Kelnalahagh Irish Papist' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 328). Same site as TN011-033--* because the townland traverses two six inch OS 6-inch maps.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
