The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on level poorly drained pasture. A low, elongated stony ridge, at least partly natural in origin, serves as a dump for field clearance debris. It measures 49m long (E-W) and is 10m wide. An orthostat, 1.5m high, stands about 10m from its eastern end. It is possible that this is the remnant of a megalithic tomb standing towards the eastern end of what may have been a long cairn. (De Valera and Ó Nualláin 1982, 97, No.1; Manning 1983-4, 51)

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
