The National Monuments Service's description
Post medieval summer house built on the summit of Knockshigowna Hill with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Described in 1837 as a small tower on the summit of Knockshigwna Hill (Lewis 1837, 114). The Ordnance Survey Field Name Books for Ballingarry parish described this tower in 1840 as 'the ruins of a small castle built on the summit of Knockshigowna Hill by the father of Mr Robinson the present proprietor of Mt. ..., where dinner parties often assembled here on Sunday afternoons to enjoy a fine prospect the elevation of the place commands' (O'Donovan et. al. 1840; Nolan 1985, 306). Only a short section of the S wall (L 6.8m, T 0.7m; H 3.85m) of this summer house survives, wall footings of the W wall are visible, with no surface remains visible of the N and E walls. A slit ope of 19th century appearance can be seen in the upstanding section of the S wall. No other features visible.
