Ringfort - rath

Situated on the N-facing slope of a hill with extensive views in undulating countryside. A large oval-shaped area (diam. 68m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.5-0.7m; ext. H 1-1.5m) and an outer fosse (Wth 3m; D 0.8m) with a causewayed entrance (Wth 2.8m) at E. Two small cairns (diam. 2m; H 0.5m; diam. 1.5m; H 0.3m) are located 8m apart in the centre of the ringfort. Possible grass-covered field walls in the N and S sectors of the interior may indicate habitation structures. Nineteenth-century forest plantation cuts across the site from S to W.

The enclosing bank of the ringfort has been levelled between 2010 and 2012. The curving tree-lined enclosing bank of the ringfort is visible on OSI aerial photographs dating from 2005 and on google aerial maps dating from 2010. This curving tree-lined enclosing bank has been levelled between 2010 and 2012 as it is not visible on bing aerial maps taken on the 26th of May 2012. On the 2012 bing aerial maps the levelled bank is only visible as a cropmark.
