Situated on a low rise of ground with good views in all directions; church (TN007-056002-) and graveyard (TN007-056003-) immediately to SE. Uskean Castle mentioned in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as one of three castles in the parish of Uskane (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 327). It has been assumed that Uskane House was built on the site of the medieval castle of Uskane. The 1654-7 Down Survey map of Lower Ormond Barony depicts the castle in close proximity to the medieval church (NLI MS 721). However on this map it shows the castle standing to the S of the church close to the townland boundary. This cartographic evidence would suggest that Uskane House was not built in the site of the medieval castle. No visible remains at ground level in the vicinity of Uskane House. The castle may have been located in the fields to the S of Uskane House. The precise location of this castle within the townland of Uskane has not been identified.
