The National Monuments Service's description
Lewis (1837, vol. 1, 484) describes an old extensive burial ground which has not been used in living memory while Gleeson (1951-2, 105) describes this graveyard (TN005-016002) as being located in the orchard of Ross House along with the surviving wall of a church. On either side of Ross House are two nineteenth-century Gothick façades with blocked pointed windows and fake battlements. The church is not visible above ground, however, it was described by Gleeson (1982, 264-5) as follows: 'Its length is 43ft 7 inches [13.2m], breadth 21 feet 10 inches [6.65m], height of side walls 10 feet 6 inches [3.2m], thickness 3 feet [0.9m]. An arched doorway is placed in the south wall, the stones of this doorway are removed from all parts on the exterior; the interior of the doorway is nearly circular, inclining to a point. The building is rough; the stones are shapeless and large sized. There is a burial ground (TN005-016002) attached to this ruin'. No other features visible. Not marked on any edition of the OS 6-inch map.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
