The National Monuments Service's description
Listed in SMR (1992) as an unlocated togher. Described in 1868-9 as an old road formed of planks of bog oak placed side by side, as in American 'corduroy roads', discovered leading through a bog near Portland in County Tipperary (Stoney, C.B., JRSAI 1868-9, X, 439) and which had subsequently been removed during turf-cutting (Lucas, A.T., PRIA LXXV 1985, 41).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
