The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a low rise of rock outcrop in undulating countryside with nearby tower house (TN004-022001) to the N. There are no visible remains of deserted settlement due to the presence of several quarry holes in the area. Poorly preserved linear earthworks to the N of the tower house may be the remains of deserted settlement. Aerial photographs show up several earthworks in fields to South of Castle (GSI M. 449/8; CUCAP ALL 24; CUCAP AVN 78; CUCAP AVQ 58).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
