The National Monuments Service's description
No surface remains of a dwelling described by O'Donovan et al (1840) in the OS namebooks.
On the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map Ballymacegan is indicated as a T-plan house. By the 2nd (1903) ed. The house is indicated as 'Ballymacegan Ho. (in ruins)' and is indicated as a rectangular shell.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
