The National Monuments Service's description
In rough grazing, close to a break of slope at the E end of a ridge. One of a group of four barrows forming a barrow cemetery (see SL047-048002; SL047-048003-; SL047-048004-). A circular area (c. 11m E-W; 11.7m N-S) enclosed by a fosse (Wth c. 3m) which is evident as a broad band of waterlogged ground supporting a dense growth of rushes and irises. A stony external flat-topped bank (Wth 2.4m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.2m) is evident all round. A possible entrance (Wth 1.35m) at ESE is marked by a low section of the bank and a corresponding dry section of the fosse. There is a gap (Wth 3m) in the bank at E. The overall diameter of the barrow is 20m N-S and 19.7m E-W. It is conjoined at W to a bowl-barrow (SL047-048002-). A ditch barrow (SL047-048003-) lies c. 14m to W and another (SL047-04804-) c. 30m to ESE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
