The National Monuments Service's description
In a secluded bay, on the E shore of Lough Gara, exposed during summer and submerged in winter. The shoreline is stony while the lake-bed is marly. A large crannog (SL047-017----) is visible c. 100m to E. A low-cairn crannog (6m N-S; 7.5m E-W; H 0.9m) consisting of a floor of shattered angular stones spread out on an elevation of marl. There are about 14 subangular stones (diam. 0.3-0.4m) outside the edge N-ESE. The site is distinct in edge and height W-E while it blends into the shoreline to the S. Wood from piles along the edge of crannog has been dated to the later early medieval period (Fredengren 2002, KILA 011). The site is grass-covered and surrounded by reeds. It is one of three crannogs (SL047-017----; SL047-018005-) and amongst a group of six possible crannogs (SL047-015----; SL047-018001-; SL047-018002-; SL047-018003-; SL047-018004-; SL047-018006-) in this bay.
