The National Monuments Service's description
On an E-facing slope, near the shore of and overlooking Lough Gara. A circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3.9m; int. H 1.5m; ext. H 2.2m) along the SW and NW arcs and by a scarp (H 2.8m) elsewhere. An external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.7m) is evident along the SE and NW arcs where the bank survives. A causewayed entrance (Wth 1.2m) is at SW. The E portion of the interior is raised to compensate for the hillslope, however, the interior slopes down to SE. Both the bank and the interior are heavily overgrown with trees and shrubs. According to local information, an unlocated burial ground (SL046-048----) is somewhere to the N of the rath.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
