The National Monuments Service's description

In poorly drained rough pasture, on a gentle SE-facing slope, close to the shore of Lough Gara; a disused railway line lies immediately to E. A slightly raised D-shaped area (dims. 29.7m N-S; min. 25m E-W) defined on the straight E side by a vertical scarp (H 1.8m) resulting from truncation during the construction of the railway line, S-SW by a curving earth and stone bank (Wth 4.1m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.05m), SW-NW mainly by a scarp (H 0.6m) with a low internal rim in places, NW-N by a slumped bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.65m; ext. H 1.45m) and N-NE by a scarp (H 0.75m). A slight depression (Wth c. 3m) outside the bank SSW-SW and another NNW-N, marked by damp ground and rushes, may indicate the line of an external fosse. The interior slopes down gently from the centre to NE, has slight traces of cultivation ridges and is crossed by a NNE-SSW field boundary wall.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
